THE ART OF SKIN REJUVENATION WITH BIOCOMPATIBILITY
For healthy skin, a balanced microbiota is key

The art of skin rejuvenation with biocompatibility

The principles of naturopathy apply to skin health too. Let me inspire you by sharing what I know.

Skin is a living organ!

While this is self-evident, in cosmetology we often forget that we’re dealing with living matter.

Skin consists of tissues made of living cells.

The basic needs of living organisms

Essentially, skin has the same needs as any other living being. It requires the proper temperature, nourishment, water and air.

Water

Without water, life cannot exist. Among other functions, water transports nutrients and eliminates waste.

Air

Air is also vital to life.

Nourishment

Nourishment supplies the necessary nutrients to produce energy, promote growth and stay alive. These essential nutrients include sugars and starches, fats, proteins, vitamins and minerals.

Habitat (ideal temperature)

Most organisms cannot live outside a given temperature range. In other words, they have a comfort zone in which they can thrive.

Biocompatibility

The adjective “biocompatible” qualifies materials that do not disrupt or damage the biological environment in which they are used. Furthermore, biocompatible agents help living matter thrive, as they can communicate as peers with the environment.

Skin from a naturopath’s perspective

The basic principles of naturopathy underlying ideal organism health apply to skin health as well.

Regularly detoxify skin

The body evacuates waste through five emunctories: the kidneys, lungs, liver, intestines and skin.

When you detoxify your skin, you eliminate harmful substances and waste products from the body, so your skin can function as it should and regenerate.

Dead Sea mud and clays, for example, are biocompatible detoxifying agents able to strategically target waste that can damage your skin.

Move to activate blood flow in the skin

Good blood circulation promotes oxygenation, nutrient absorption and toxin elimination. Physical exercise is great for your skin, but circulation also needs to be stimulated locally, with exfoliation or massage, for example.

Nourish your skin

Give your skin nutrient-rich, biocompatible ingredients that are easily absorbed. For example, skin absorbs and uses animal-derived collagen much better than collagen of vegetable origin, as the former is more compatible with skin cells than the latter.

Increase your skin’s immune defences

Nourish and preserve your skin’s flora by getting enough prebiotics and protecting it from anything that causes damage.

Sleep (rest)

Living organisms need rest so they can regenerate and repair themselves; that’s when they absorb and use nutrients. If skin is continually mistreated, it focuses its energy on repair or detoxification instead of revitalization (rejuvenation).

Like doctors, naturopaths must first do no harm!

The preservation of biological integrity is essential to the skin’s rejuvenation process, and necessary for natural, lasting results with no side effects.

Avoid products that are too greasy (large lipid molecules), and silicones that weigh down skin and prevent oxygenation.

Avoid chemicals that are not compatible with skin and that poison it.

Avoid treatments that destroy healthy cells.

I’m often asked: “How do you know if a given treatment poses risks?”

The answer is simple: avoid anything that can trigger inflammation, which causes pain, redness, heat and swelling. Inflammation is a sign that the skin has been injured, and healthy cells have been destroyed.

In conclusion

Beauty and cosmetics experts are always searching for new ways to reach the deep dermis and optimize treatment results. However, the methods developed often undermine the skin’s biological integrity. The results don’t last, and the treatments can even pose risks.

Wouldn’t biocompatible products and methods be a better way to deeply communicate with your skin?

Biocompatibly yours,
